Frequently Asked Questions About Large Picture Frames
We generally consider frames from A2 (420 × 594 mm / 16 × 23 inch) upward to be large picture frames. Our large frame range includes A2, A1, A0, and a full selection of imperial large sizes such as 16×20, 18×24, 20×24, 20×28, 24×30, and 24×36 inch. For anything beyond these standard sizes, we can manufacture a custom frame to your exact specification.
Yes — this is one of our specialities. As frame manufacturers, we can produce large frames in any dimension. Use our custom picture frame builder to specify the exact size you need, or email us at info@strandframing.com with your requirements and we will provide a quote.
Our large picture frames are available in all the same finishes as our standard range: gloss black, matte black, gloss white, matte white, natural oak, limed, gold, and silver. All finishes are applied by hand in our Dublin factory for a consistently high-quality result. Contact us if you need a specific colour or finish not listed.
Yes, our large picture frames are supplied with 2mm clear float glass as standard. For frames above approximately 24×30 inch, we recommend acrylic (Perspex) glazing as a safer and lighter alternative to glass. Acrylic is shatter-resistant, significantly lighter for large formats, and available in standard and non-reflective versions. Please contact us when ordering very large frames and we can advise on the best glazing option.
All our large frames include an integrated D-ring hanging system. For frames over 24 inch on the longest side, we recommend using two wall fixings spaced apart to distribute the weight and prevent the frame tilting. Use appropriate wall anchors or fixings for your wall type — consult a hardware store if unsure. For very large or heavy frames in commercial settings, we recommend professional installation.
Standard large picture frames (with glass) are designed for flat artwork, photographs, and prints — not for stretched canvas. For canvas artwork, you need a canvas floater frame (tray frame), which is specifically designed to hold a stretched canvas without glass. We stock canvas floater frames in all large sizes and can manufacture to custom dimensions.
Yes. We supply custom-cut picture mounts for all frame sizes including large formats. Mounts are cut from acid-free white core mountboard with a precision bevel edge, and are available in a wide range of colours. To order a mount for a large frame, visit our custom picture mounts page and enter your frame and image sizes.
All of our standard moulding profiles are available in large sizes. Popular choices for large frames include our flat contemporary profiles (1515, 2020) which suit modern interiors, and our wider traditional profiles which add presence to large artwork. For hotel, gallery, or commercial projects requiring a specific profile, contact us and we can advise on the most suitable option.
Yes. As a manufacturer, we offer competitive wholesale pricing on all large frames. Volume discounts apply automatically — the more you order, the lower the per-unit price. We regularly supply hotels, galleries, photographers, print studios, and interior designers with large format frames. Contact us to discuss trade pricing, regular supply agreements, or large-volume orders.
